Who I Am

I’m Vishal V. Shekkar. I’ve been building production machine learning systems since 2016, back when “AI” still mostly meant chatbots and recommendation engines.

I co-founded Labyrinth, an AI consulting firm where I’ve helped build over 30 products across computer vision, identity verification, natural language processing, and augmented reality. Along the way, I’ve worked closely with Apple, AWS, and the ICC, among others. Our KYC platform handled millions of verifications during peak T20 World Cup traffic. We’ve built weapon detection systems deployed in the US. The work is real, the stakes are high, and the systems run in production.

But building these systems also means sitting with hard questions. What happens when on-device ML can profile your encrypted data? Who benefits when the internet gets rewritten for machines? I think about the philosophy behind the technology as much as the engineering, and I’ve found that the most important conversations happen at that intersection.

What I Write About

I write about how AI is reshaping society — power, privacy, work, and attention — alongside travel notes, some creative writing, and small, everyday observations.

I don’t have it all figured out; I’m thinking in public and changing my mind. If the human side of technology and other observations interests you, welcome.
